Personal

One of the founding members of the firm, Tim Frets is an experienced trial attorney who has handled hundreds of medical malpractice cases in a number of states, including Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas. He has been lead defense counsel representing physicians, hospitals, dentists, nurses and pharmacists in cases involving virtually every medical specialty. Tim was also named to Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers in 2007, 2008 and 2009 in the Medical Malpractice area.

Tim received his undergraduate degree from Drury College (now called Drury University) with a double major in Business Administration and Economics. While in college, he earned All-American honors as a member of the Drury swimming and diving team. Tim obtained his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law. Following law school, he served two years as Assistant Attorney General of the State of Oklahoma.

Tim is an active member of the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association, a national bar association for which he served as its President in 2006-2007. He has been a member of its Board of Directors since 2001 and a member of the LPBA Executive Committee from 2003-2008.

An active pilot for over 32 years, Tim holds a commercial pilot certificate with instrument and multi-engine ratings. He has logged over 3,200 hours of flight time, much of which was accumulated during flights to trials, depositions, witness conferences and continuing education conferences.

He has been actively involved in charitable aviation. He served on the Board of Directors of Angel Flight Central (formerly known as Wings Over Mid-America) from 1997-2005 and was a member of the Executive Committee from 1999-2003. In May 2003 Tim was honored with membership in the Angel Flight Central Golden Eagle Society, recognizing his contribution of more than 1,000 non-pilot volunteer hours. He remains an active volunteer pilot flying people in need.

Tim has been a speaker on medical malpractice topics at legal education seminars, medical schools, and for resident-physician education at local hospitals.

Representative Cases

Thompson v. Anand et al. (Jackson County Circuit Court). A defense verdict was obtained on behalf of an emergency room physician and physician corporation in a case involving the brain damage of a three week old infant. This case was recognized by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as one of the top ten defense verdicts in Missouri in 2005.

Millard v. Corrado, 14 S.W.3d 42 (Mo.App. 1999). In this combination product liability/medical malpractice case, our firm represented a lady who was seriously injured in a car wreck. Her injuries were exacerbated when an on-call doctor failed to show up at a hospital emergency room. This case established new law in Missouri that recognized a legal duty between on-call physicians and emergency room patients.
